Unit 9 Final Project

Final Project
Introduction
It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually, and physically. A health and wellness professional must be entwined with the psychologically, spiritually, physically aspect of their own life. We teach others how to develop psychologically, spiritually, and physically; in order to teach the techniques we have to live them ourselves. It is hard to teach someone how to mediate if I myself have never mediated before. As a healer, integral health cannot just be what we have learned or read in a book; it has to be a way of life. The only way to discover the profound possibilities of integral health and healing, one must incorporate it into his or her own lives (Dacher, 2006).
In order for me to achieve this goal, I need to continue to develop on all three aspects. Psychologically I need to eliminate the mental chatter.  As for the spiritual aspect I need to spend more time in prayer. Physically I need to take care of my appearance.
Assessment
I have assessed my health with each domain by trying to maintain a balance between my psychological, spiritual, and physical well-being. I try to lessen needless suffering and encourage human flourishing.
I believe there is always room of improvement. On a scale of 1 to 10, I will score my psychological aspect an 8. Although, I don’t have psychological illness such as anxiety or depression, I need to work on having an Olympic mind set. I will score my spiritual aspect a 7, because I need to spend more time with God in prayer. I rate my physical aspect a 7 because I need to work on my body composition.
Goal Development
One goal I have for my self in the psychological aspect is to try to think positive thoughts, and when negative thoughts arise dispose of them immediately. My goal for my spiritual aspect is to become one with Christ. My goal for my physical aspect is workout three times a week, and watch what I eat.
Practices for Personal Health
Some strategies I will use to implement the growth in my psychological domain is to mediate more. I really enjoyed the Mental Visualization exercise and I will continue to practice this exercise throughout the week.  I have an obsessive amount of mental chatter, and an unfocused mind I will use the three steps of the Subtle Mind Exercise, witnessing mind, calm abiding mind, and unity consciousness. I will implement the Mental Visualization and Subtle Mind Exercise by devoting a specific time out of each day and performing these exercises.
As for the spiritual aspect I plan to implement my growth by spending more reading the bible and joining prayer groups. I believe the Bible is the gateway to Christ, and reading and studying the Bible will bring me closer the to Christ and elevate my spirituality. Joining a prayer group has always been helpful for me. Prayer groups keep me focus and discipline. I know if people are depending on me, I will be more likely to attend.
The strategies I will implement to foster growth in physical aspect are through diet and exercise. I think I am a pretty healthy person. I do not have any illness such as hypertension or diabetes. I am rarely sick or feeling under the weather. I have been a vegetarian for two years now and I am working my way to become a vegan. I do eat a more than my share of sweets. I will combat this by eliminating sweets and food that high in carbohydrates from my diet. I do workout most of the time, but I will get back on a strict schedule working out 3-5 times per day.
Commitment
I will assess my progress psychologically, for the next six months, by keep a journal. I will track my mediation progress. I will continue to eliminate the mental chatter by mediating on positive things. I will continue clear my mind and let go of past hurt feelings. I will continue this long-term by setting aside a special time everyday to exercise these mediation exercises.
Spiritually, I will assess my progress for the next six months by writing down the books and chapters of the Bible I ready daily. I will also write down key points that I can incorporate into my life to make my life better. As for long term I will continue to work with prayer group.
For the next six months I will assess my progress by going on a sugar detox and reading the food labels on the food I eat. I will maintain my progress on long term by doing search and substituting the bad sugars for healthier alternatives. As for exercise in the next six months I will join the local YMCA and participate in exercise classes such as Zubma Classes and Yoga Classes. As for long-term, I will train for a marathon and enter in local road races.

  1. Roxanne,

Really great project post! I especially like your idea of keeping a journal. I find that when I write things down I am much more accountable so I just may steal your idea. I too have committed to additional prayer/study groups with my church. I have already signed up for a 12 week group that starts in January that builds on spiritual foundations and I am really looking forward to it. It has been a please having class with you and best of luck to you in your future endeavors!

  2. Roxanne,

Great post! I really liked all of the strategies that you talked about: mental visualization, reading the Bible, diet, and exercise. These are all great strategies to improve your psychological, spiritual, and physical health and well-being. I think that I am going to use these strategies as well to better my well-being. I have already started on the path of reading the Bible, eating better, and exercising. I want to try using more mental visualizations to help me to relax and feel at peace with myself and others. I like your idea of reading the food labels. I think that is a great idea and you really learn what is in the food that you are putting into your body. I also think that joining a class is a good way to commit to your health. If you are held accountable for your well-being then you will be more likely to stay healthy. Good job with this project and good luck with your plans!
